One on One with Singer-Songwriter Jeff Larson

Jeff Larson is a veteran singer-songwriter possessing a musical body of work focused on visual lyrical content and unique melody. With music rooted in his native Bay Area, California, his sound draws on the rich heritage of West Coast music.

Jeff's latest CD Close Circle was released on July 22, 2014 on both CD and download. It includes guests Gerry Beckey & Dewey Bunnell (America), Randell Kirsch, Jeffrey Foskett, Jeddrah, Dave Nachmanoff, and others.

We caught up with Jeff this summer and asked him about his experience with Fishman.

What projects are you currently working on?
I just released a solo project titled "Close Circle".  This was about three years of work and was produced by myself, Jeff Pevar and Hank Linderman. It has some of the usual suspects that have helped in the past, Gerry Beckley & Dewey Bunnell of America, Jeff Foskett and Randell Kirsch (Beach Boys Band), Jeddrah, and Jeff Pevar who played a wealth of stringed instruments throughout and helped shaped the production on this new one.  I continue to work with Hank Linderman (a great guitarist in his own right) on some ongoing solo material and more recently I am helping, in a new role, on some archival work with Gerry.  I mainly try to keep things going and see if a project carves itself out along the way.

How long have you been using Fishman products?
About 12 Years

What Fishman products do you use?
In my guitars I use the Infinity Matrix pickup.  I also use the Loudbox Performer amp along with the Aura Spectrum DI pedal to dial in my sound.  I find both to be highly dependable products and allow me to have control over most environments.

What were the key features/factors in choosing this product?
The infinity matrix works best across most of the live situations I have done since returning to performing a couple years ago. re: The Loudbox Performer, I have both the older "black" and it's revised version.  The older one I picked up as demo / floor model from Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto, CA several years ago.  I was impressed with the control it gave me to tweak my acoustics live.  I still use that (black) performer amp in my home studio and take the newer out and have used it solely for smaller house type concerts.

What instruments are you using with your Fishman product?

I play a Martin D18, OM21, a Taylor GS8 and 514-Mahogany Top - all with Fishman electronics installed.

Can you give an example of your immediate impression of the product?

The best thing I can say is Fishman products are dependable and valuable additions to any artists live setup - they fill the need.

Explain your experience with Fishman.

I am impressed that they appear to be always be at it by working to improve and provide options to make the acoustic guitar "come across". They are there for their artists and have inspired me with their focus.

What would you like to see a company like Fishman design?

An all-in-one pedal for acoustic guitarists / singer-songwriters, integrating the Aura Spectrum DI with delay, chorus, and other effect.
